Can Lingo code be accessed/hacked from a projector?

When a Director movie is protected or compiled as a projector or Shockwave movie, the readable Lingo is completely stripped from the file. All that is left is the compiled code. For more information about "compiled code", see Is Lingo tokenized, or compiled? What's the difference? (TechNote 12171). Because Lingo scripts are stripped and incorporated as part of the larger compiled code, Lingo scripts are safe from being read by others. Only the DIR file format retains editable Lingo, DCR, DXR and EXE files do not.

Graphics, text, audio, and video assets cannot be protected as securely as Lingo. A screen capture can reproduce anything seen on a computer screen, but the viewable logic behind a movie file can be removed completely by protecting, compressing, or embedding the file.

It is also important to note that internal viewable media in protected Director files become part of the complied file. For this reason it is important to keep the source files to a project. Just as in C or other compiled environments, the source code is the part that is editable, and must be retained. Always back-up source files. It is best to archive back-up files onto two separate drives, preferably in separate locations.

Summary: Viewable Lingo is completely removed from a protected or compiled Director file, although graphics can be reproduced from screen captures, the code is removed and the Lingo code cannot be viewed or edited.
