It's a nightmare when your lovely new Shockwave movie plays well in Director, then you hit publish and Shockwave says "Script Error! Continue?" ... what script error? Why didn't Director pick it up?
Well, that's beyond me. I guess most of the time it's down to the difference between authoring and .. um .. playering!

After months of messing around with these Script Error beasties, someone suggested this amazing little feature in Shockwave to turn full error reporting on... and also a Shockwave message window (same as the one in Director, so you can PUT things to it!)

Find the file Director.ini (should be Program Files/Macromedia/Director 8) Copy the file into the system's Shockwave folder (should be something like windows/ system/ macromedia/ Shockwave 8 or on Win2k it's WINNT/ System32/ Macromed) Rename the file to shockwave.ini Open the shockwave.ini file in Notepad or similar. You're looking for "MessageWindow = 1" - notice that nearly everything is commented out using a ";" ... uncomment the MessageWindow flag. Scroll down to "DisplayFullLingoErrorText=1" and uncomment it. Now Shockwave has a message window AND reports full errors! No more "Script Error"!! There's a whole load of settings in there .. have a look around and try it out! For many, this is probably common knowledge - however, no-one told me until I'd already had 16 cups of coffee and a sore head with the imprint of my mouse mat on it.
